This year’s (2015-16) Land Trust Budget: $47,814
The School Community Council works together to create and approve a plan to use the Land Trust Funds to provide all the students with programs and resources that will enrich their learning experience and help them grow academically and socially!
A message about the SCC:
Many of you have probably seen many letters sent home over the years about joining the community council. If you are anything like me you probably said to yourself, “That sounds way too serious, and like a lot of work!”, and then quickly threw them in the trash. This is my fourth year with a student at Heartland and my second year on the community council. Had I known earlier what I now know about the community council I would have joined much sooner and I think many of you may feel the same way.
The community council is comprised of administrators, teachers, and most importantly parents. We meet four times a year, usually for an hour. As a member you have a forum to bring any questions/concerns you or your community may have. You also get a voice in how the funds from the land trust will be allocated. This year I was thrilled when we were able to put the majority towards academic programs for our students and teachers. It is also a great opportunity to get to know the Principal, teachers, and other parents. It really is the a great way to be involved in your child’s education without making a big time commitment.
So, when the notes to join the community council come around this spring, make sure you sign your name and return it. That will make you a member! I look forward to seeing many of you at our next meeting and making this year the best yet at Heartland.
